Abstract, Contemporary, Realism and Mixed Media have been different art styles and techniques that I have explored and I'm sure will pop back into from time to time but my current style is best described as Photorealism. A style that was developed as an art movement in the 1960's which grew out of its predecessors - Pop and minimalism.
I enjoy working from photographs which allow an in depth study of colors, textures, and a light source that's never changing. I'm attracted to the technical challenge Photorealism presents versus the pure feelings and emotions approach used by Abstract Expressionists.
Photorealism requires immense planning, gathering visual information and execution of the layout onto the wood panel before I can even begin to apply the first layer of Acrylic. Once the initial layers are put onto the surface, I will continue to build layer after layer until I'm satisfied with the results.
My subject matter is mostly ordinary everyday imagery that I find beautiful or feel an emotional connection. Once selected, I will continue to play with the composition and scale to change the mood of the painting and captivate the viewer. My recent series is a celebration of pop icons with a focus on eyes which reveal so much about who we are.
My studio is located in Greenville, South Carolina where I live with my Husband and my two dogs, Leonardo and Vincent.
I would love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have and thank you so much for visiting!
